Creating animation takes more than just making things move. It’s a blend of creativity, planning, and careful execution behind the scenes.
To make it easier to understand, let’s take a real example: a biographical animated video about Governor Ario Soerjo.
Pre-Production (1st-2nd Week)
This is the starting line of every animated video. A clear plan at this stage helps the rest of the animated video production process flow smoothly.
- Concept Development
In this project, the core idea was to share life values from Governor Ario Soerjo’s inspiring journey.
The video targeted a wide audience, from students to adults. Since it came from Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Jawa Timur (the East Java Department of Culture and Tourism), the goal was to make history feel engaging and easy to enjoy. - Concept Development
Next, we shaped the message into a story. The script was built from research and written to feel natural, informative, and emotional. It became the foundation for the entire animation. - Storyboard
Once the script was done, we turned words into visuals. The storyboard helped show how the story would look, scene by scene. It was a key step to keep the team and client aligned early in the animated video production process.

Production (3rd-6th Week)
Now we start cooking! This is where all the planning turns into real animated magic. It’s the heart of the animated video production process, and yes, it takes time to get things looking and sounding great.
- Asset Creation
Here’s where we build everything that appears on screen. From characters to backgrounds, all assets were carefully designed to match the look of the era. We used miniatur-style visuals as a reference, making each element feel handcrafted. The outfits, environments, and props were all based on historical research. Every building, costume, and detail was chosen to match the real time period, so the world felt authentic and true to history. - Animation
Once the assets were ready, we brought them to life. The animation process turned still images into dynamic scenes. We used keyframes to create movement, emotion, and flow. Each scene was carefully timed to match the pacing of the story, helping the visuals feel smooth and engaging from start to finish. - Voice Over and Sound Design (Time to give it sound and soul!)
We matched the narration style to how people spoke during that time. Some lines even came from original recordings and documents. Music also played a big part in setting the mood. Traditional tunes supported scenes from Soerjo’s youth, while dramatic scores helped build intensity during moments of war and leadership.

Revisions & Final Touches (4th-5th Week)
This is where everything comes together and gets polished to perfection. It’s the final lap in the animated video production process. (well mostly for client’s satisfaction)
- Feedback & Adjustments
We review the full video together with the client. Based on their feedback, we tweak visuals, timing, or story flow. This step helps align the final result with the original vision and adds that extra sparkle. - Rendering & Exporting
Once everything is locked, we render the video in high quality. We also optimize it for different platforms, whether it’s for social media, presentations, or broadcast.

So… How Long Does It Take in Total?
On average, a high-quality animated video takes 4-8 weeks to complete.
Need it faster? Shorter timelines are possible but may require additional resources.
A well-planned process leads to an efficient production pipeline.
